This EP came as a visceral response to isolation, trauma and longing during the pause and chaos of 2020.
All of the tracks on Future City No Kissing began as open ideas initiated by Sellner and shared with collaborators whose contributions have been woven into sonic storytelling environments. None of these tracks are possible without a spirit of sharing and empathy between Sellner and her extraordinarily talented collaborators.
Headphones are recommended.
I Go Swimming
In 2019 at Field Kitchen residency, Sellner wrote an exploratory text for a sound piece Future City No Kissing which imagined a possible future that eliminated intimacy in an attempt to combat the climate crisis and protect humanity. Less than a year later, these fictive ideas became our collective reality. Performance artist Ines Marita Schärer expands on the original concept and personal experiences during 2020 in her own words.
Voice and text (German and English) - Ines Marita Schärer
Voice, clarinet, field recordings, concept and editing - Jilliene Sellner
بيروت
As a small gesture of solidarity, بيروت (Beirut) is the result of our collective grievance for our colleagues and friends after the explosion in Beirut on 4 August 2020. The track was made together apart during lockdown, from Istanbul, Cairo, Lisbon and Hastings.
30% of funds from full album purchases will go to Impact Lebanon.

Fondre
Domestic field recordings during the Spring of 2020 provide the backdrop for this piece which cuts through loneliness, isolation, and romantic/obsessive love; the projection of desires, the absence of genuine love and the melting and blurriness of individual identity. Vocalist Aude Langois adapts Sellner’s French text and through her voice masterfully cleaves sound and words together to convey a longing for devotion from someone or noone.
