about

The track considers the irrevocably entwined relationship between human activity and the environment. As a field recordist hunting urban as much as bucolic sonifications, it is unavoidable that aural sensations bypass fictions that we thread into the current consumer paradigm (at our own peril). The recordings are littered with machine and anthropophonic interruptions emphasising human occupation and enterprise. Marina activity, the rebuild of Hastings harbour arm, marsh sluices and around the RSPB and power station at Dungeness all evidence the interconnections between utility, exploitation, defense, leisure and environmental conservation and our innate stubbornness against preserving the latter.

This piece was orginially played as an intallation in As Long As My Arm at The Dirty Old Gallery, Hastings, UK, June 2019.
